Miro

Target Four

A large-handed Lalow crew member ruins a false cargo story but vividly exposes the slavery his family’s ship is fighting.

Story so far

Miro is a crew member aboard the Lalow, descended from a grandparent who escaped contract labor and helped acquire the family ship. During Murderbot’s rescue he is unarmed but gets thrown into Fenn while the SecUnit disables the hostage-takers. He knows SecUnits are not supposed to talk back and reacts with shocked hostility to Murderbot’s freedom.

Miro cannot keep the Lalow’s over-detailed false cargo route straight under Officer Matif’s questioning. Once he worries about “the others,” he describes all ten missing refugees, including three adolescents, and names BreharWallHan imperfectly. He explains that generations have been trapped in asteroid mines, that Lutran was the plan person responsible for the next stage, and that his crew helps because its own grandparent escaped the same system of contract bondage.

Appearance

An adult man of unspecified age, skin tone, hair, and facial features, with large hands and practical, shabby cargo-crew clothing.

Role

Miro is the accidental truth-teller whose poor lies and strong memory for people transform a murder inquiry into a rescue operation.

Relationships

Fenn — Fenn tries to preserve the Lalow’s cover after Miro’s concern for the refugees makes secrecy impossible.
Lutran — Lutran was the unseen plan person Miro trusted to move the refugees homeward from Preservation.
BreharWallHan — BreharWallHan represents the inherited contract slavery Miro’s own family escaped and now helps others flee.
