Yma

A member of the science team who runs ocular assessments of the whole camp, her data confirming the blindness plague spares no one — RCE or settler alike.

Story so far

Yma is one of Elvi Okoye's science colleagues in the ruins, tasked with performing ocular assessments across the camp during the blindness plague — working mostly with the RCE people while Lucia covers the First Landers. Her data proves grimly consistent: whatever the organism is, 'it doesn't draw a distinction between us and the squatters,' confirming near-total, side-blind infection. She sits cross-legged comparing findings with Lucia, her own hand terminal already a useless blur of white and blue as her sight fails like everyone's, voice 'tense as stretched wire' asking whether Holden agreed to be tested.

A working scientist losing her eyes alongside the colony she's measuring.

Appearance

A member of the RCE science team; going blind with the rest, squinting at a hand terminal that reads only as a blur of white and blue, voice taut with strain.

Role

Science-team member; the colleague whose ocular-assessment data confirms the plague infects RCE and settlers indiscriminately.

Relationships

Elvi Okoye — The workgroup head she gathers ocular data for as the cure hunt races the failing of everyone's eyes.
Lucia Merton — The doctor she compares assessment data with, dividing the camp's screenings between them.
