Story so far
Marwick, captain of the Edward Israel, comes out of the crisis a hero. His ship's reactor restored once the defenses died, and his release of the emergency airlocks credited in a newsfeed with saving the Barbapiccola's people, he jokes with Havelock that RCE would give them 'a ticker-tape parade' and that now's the time to ask for raises and hazard pay. He faces the thorny aftermath of the refugees — whether the Belters are prisoners, passengers, or colonists, and whether to carry them the eighteen months back to Medina or land them (about half choose to stay on the ground).
He offers the colony what more his ship can spare — a backup generator, biomass — and, decent to the end, admits he's uneasy 'leaving all these poor people if they're really going to die from staying,' comforted by Havelock's reminder that whatever people bring with them, 'humanity can still pull together in heavy weather.'
