Posted to bar the alien plant, Wei refuses to stand down for her friend Amos — 'worse ways than dying at your post' — and is killed in the crossfire of Murtry's ambush, used as bait by her own chief.
Chandra Wei, Murtry's lead enforcer, makes her last stand at the threshold of the vast alien power plant, posted by her chief to keep anyone from entering RCE's claim. When Amos arrives, the two friends face off with real regret; Amos offers to let them each just take their man and walk away, but Wei, softening into something like sorrow, won't abandon her orders — 'When it's time to go, there's worse ways than dying at your post.' As Amos finally raises his shotgun, Murtry — who has used Wei as bait to fix Amos's attention — shoots Amos from behind, and in the crossfire Wei is killed, arms flung wide on the ground. Fayez names the truth: Murtry set her there to be a distraction and sacrificed her, then feigned regret at 'failing to save Sergeant Wei.' The fighter who'd quietly crossed the factional line into friendship dies for a chief who spent her life without hesitation.
A lean, athletic RCE enforcer with a hard capable face; her canonical look — chin lifted, standing feet shoulder-width, hands at her sides — before she fell.
RCE's lead enforcer; the dutiful fighter used as bait and killed in Murtry's ambush of Amos at the alien plant.
