Michio Pa

Pa · Captain Pa · Michio

Six months after Marco's disappearance, Pa comes to Ceres seeking amnesty and finds Holden publicly nominating her to lead the proposed independent transport union.

Story so far

Michio Pa broke from Marco Inaros to fight for a Belt that could survive without becoming his tyranny. The diversion at Titan left her burned, grieving, and unable to stop Marco's final burn, but she held onto Josep's reminder that she had opposed Marco for the Belt rather than followed Holden. Six months after the Pella's disappearance, she has a smaller family, a cheap cargo hauler on loan, and a future that still depends on inner-planet power.

At a Ceres conference convened to settle the war's aftermath, Pa feels herself arriving to beg Earth and Mars for freedom from Marco's crimes. Her family remains aboard the new ship: Laura is recovering with Nadia and Bertold, while Josep scans their guest suite for the surveillance they both assume exists. Avasarala's warm reception and her blunt acknowledgment of Pa's unspoken apology give Pa a precarious hope that amnesty may be possible. Carlos Walker then asks whom Pa represents if not herself, a question she cannot answer easily.

When Holden presents a plan for an independent Belt transport union to regulate safe gate traffic and rebuild the system's supply routes, Avasarala feigns a nomination of him as its first president. Holden refuses the familiar imposition of an Earther leader and names Pa instead: a tested Belter with the legitimacy to lead her own community. Pa is left stunned at the center of a political future she came expecting only to negotiate her survival.

Appearance

A compact Belter woman with short dark hair around old burn damage, a tired steady face, and a capable captain's bearing; six months of recovery leave her dressed in practical formal travel clothes rather than a uniform.

Role

Pa is the former Free Navy captain whose hard-won credibility makes her the unexpectedly proposed Belter leader of the postwar order.

Relationships

[[James Holden]] — She expects him to be the inner-planet hero elevated over the Belt until he publicly refuses the role and nominates her.
[[Chrisjen Avasarala]] — Avasarala offers practical compassion and political possibility while still holding the power to determine Pa's amnesty.
[[Carlos Walker]] — His quiet question about representation helps make Pa see that her presence carries obligations beyond saving herself.
