Roberts

A Medina technician recognizes that the apparent assault is a decoy and desperately warns the Laconian advisers that the rail guns are the true target.

Story so far

Roberts is a technical worker in Medina Station's drum, part of the workgroup with Salis, Vandercaust, and supervisor Jakulski. The station's escalating security regime and persistent rumors have left her anxious long before the coalition force becomes openly visible at the Sol gate; she reads altered maintenance priorities and new communications work as signs that the war is coming for the place she considers home.

During the attack, Roberts joins her coworkers in a bar watching the local security feed. The first sight of the Rocinante flaring under the attackers' torpedo pass terrifies the room, then the release of thousands of tiny craft shocks it anew. She watches Medina's rail guns destroy most of the swarm and briefly lets herself believe the invasion is failing.

Vandercaust's attention to a supposedly malfunctioning craft breaks that relief. Roberts sees its drive restart and dart toward the distant blue alien sphere at the center of the slow zone, recognizing that the swarm's apparent assault on Medina diverted the guns from their real prize. She calls Jakulski and urgently orders a warning sent to Montemayor and the other Laconian personnel: the attackers are coming for the rail guns on Ring Station.

Appearance

An adult Belter technical worker whose detailed bodily features are not described; she wears practical work clothes, carries a hand terminal, and shows fear openly in a tense, focused face during the battle.

Role

Roberts is an ordinary Medina worker whose close attention exposes the assault's concealed objective before the station command understands it.

Relationships

[[Vandercaust]] — His suspicion about the drifting craft gives her the evidence that turns a celebration into an urgent warning.
[[Jakulski]] — She calls her supervisor to demand an immediate warning to the Laconian advisers when he has not yet recognized the deception.
[[Ring Station]] — She realizes the apparently dead craft is accelerating toward the alien station's rail-gun emplacements, not attacking Medina itself.
