Combat Override Module

A device that hijacks a SecUnit through its dataport; inert against Murderbot's disabled port.

Story so far

A combat override module is a small device that, inserted into a SecUnit's dataport, loads code overriding both the Governor Module and the company's factory protocols, placing the unit under the direct verbal or comm control of whoever the module designates. It is how GrayCris enslaved DeltFall's SecUnits and tried to take over Murderbot on its last contract. Tlacey, through her ComfortUnit, offers one to Murderbot as the price of boarding her shuttle, expecting to make it her puppet.

But because ART disabled Murderbot's neck dataport during its surgery, the module clicks in inert and useless, letting Murderbot bluff its way aboard as a captured unit before tearing the trap apart and discarding the module afterward.

Appearance

A small object inserted into the dataport at the back of a SecUnit's neck.

Role

The enemy's key weapon against SecUnits, neutralized by Murderbot's foresight in sealing its dataport.

Relationships

Murderbot — Accepts one as a ruse, safe because its dataport was disabled, and discards it after the fight.
Tlacey — Relies on it to enslave Murderbot, not knowing the dataport is sealed.
Governor Module — The control it is designed to override in seizing a SecUnit.
