Tilly Fagan

Tilly · Mrs. Robert Fagan · Mrs. Fagan · Aunt Tilly · Matilda

Tilly returns toward Earth as Anna's enduring friend, invited to Moscow after using her fortune to secure Clarissa's trial and Holden's ship.

Story so far

Tilly's wealth secures lawful passage for Clarissa Mao and clean ownership of the Rocinante, but her bond with Anna survives the crisis as something more intimate than a completed favor. On the voyage home aboard the Thomas Prince, she remains Anna's nearest companion from the fleet. Anna invites her to visit the family in Moscow and confidently predicts that Nono will love her abrasive honesty.

The photograph attached to Anna's message captures Tilly more accurately than flatter images: cigarette in one hand, the other pointing at the camera, narrowed eyes seconds away from profanity. After mass death and the loss of Ren, Anna expects this difficult, loyal woman to enter the ordinary future she is struggling to regain.

Appearance

Tilly is a thin affluent older woman with dyed arranged hair, expensive clothes, red lipstick, and eyes marked by grief. In Anna's photograph she narrows them at the camera while smoking and pointing accusingly.

Role

Tilly ends the expedition as Anna's abrasive, loyal friend and a survivor invited into the pastor's family life in Moscow.
