Thomas Prince

UNN Thomas Prince · the Prince

The battered Thomas Prince carries Anna and a diminished escort fleet home, bearing revolutionary news alongside absences no medals can repair.

Story so far

After surviving the catastrophe and evacuation from the Slow Zone, the Thomas Prince turns toward Earth with a month still remaining in its voyage. Its surviving escorts burn nearby, white streaks crossing the observation lounge's complete star field. The flotilla now mixes Earth, Mars, and outer-planet ships all returning from a crisis that briefly erased their political divisions.

The Prince carries news of humanity's greatest opportunity—the opened network of habitable worlds—but many sailors who traveled outward aboard it will not return. Waiting families will receive flags, posthumous medals, and letters instead of loved ones. In the dome-shaped observation lounge, Anna Volovodov records messages home, mourns the dead, reconciles with Cortez, and looks at the stars whose meaning the expedition has transformed.

Appearance

The Prince's observation lounge is a domed chamber whose high-definition walls show a seamless view of steady stars, making a simple bench feel suspended in space. The repaired ship travels among nearby escort burns.

Role

The Prince is the homeward vessel that holds both the expedition's bereavement and the news of humanity's suddenly limitless horizon.
