Stockade's half-successful cheat that divided Carl between two places at once and nearly killed him.
Baroness Victory lays out the mechanics for Carl: when he tried to expel the Shi Maria presence, Commander Stockade used an outside-the-dungeon partner to watch the procedure and timed a teleport request to the exact moment Shi Maria was able to accept it. Because Stockade is an idiot, it only half worked — the system split Carl in two, and because he was in two places, both sides then attempted to fully drag him into their presence.
Stockade prepared a spell to complete the pull into his ballroom. Had it landed simultaneously with a genuine Shock Wake salve, Carl would likely have died, his soul ripped in two. Instead Mordecai — aware he was being illegally observed — brewed an expulsion potion under cover of the salve story, and the split resolved with Shi Maria manifesting in Carl's body in the Lemig ballroom. The whole affair is the subject of the Minor Quorum's inquiry and the source of Stockade's confession.
The cheating incident at the heart of the adjudication, and the trigger for everything that follows.
