Miss Guss

ol' Anal Beads

Tempest's schoolteacher, who assigned the crawl report and once taught Quasar himself.

Story so far

Miss Guss teaches Tempest, and it is her assignment — a report on perceptions of the crawl — that produces the whole interview. Tempest is convinced Miss Guss gave her Carl and Princess Donut specifically because she knows Tempest is related to Carl's attorney Quasar.

Quasar's opinion of her is characteristically unrepeatable. He identifies her instantly, calls her "ol' Anal Beads", cheerfully asserts that nothing he is saying could shock a woman who taught both him and Tempest's father back in the day, and trails off mid-reminiscence with a "Wow" that Tempest wisely does not pursue. He allows that these days she could "probably turn a carrot flaccid", which is as close to respect as he gets.

Appearance

Not described beyond her age relative to Quasar — she taught him and his brother a generation ago, and by his account has long since lost whatever made her notorious.

Role

The teacher whose assignment frames the eighth-floor recap, and an old scandal in Quasar's generation.

Relationships

Tempest — Her student, whom she assigned the Carl-and-Donut report, probably on purpose.
Quasar — Taught him and his brother a generation ago; he still refers to her only by an obscene nickname.
