Clockwork Mounts

Clockwork Animals · Mechanical Mounts

Steam-hissing mechanical riding beasts in animal shapes, ridden by the Operatic Collective's robed war mages.

Story so far

Advancing through the thinning smoke, Carl takes them for horses at first and then realizes none of them are real animals. The group is a menagerie of clockwork beasts: horse-like creatures, a dinosaur similar to Mongo, a big horse-sized cat sleek like a panther, and an insect terrifyingly similar to a mantid hunter. They whir and click and hiss steam as they charge, carrying the Clockwork Mount War Mages toward Carl's position.

The mounts are notable enough that their approach, more than the mercenary infantry, fills Carl with a primal sense of foreboding.

Appearance

Mechanical animals of varied shapes — horses, a raptor-like dinosaur, an oversized panther, a mantid-shaped insect — visibly whirring, clicking, and venting steam as they run.

Role

They carry the enemy's elite mage corps at cavalry speed across the battlefield.
