Story so far
Imani's first status report after Carl wakes is that Team Retribution did it: the middle trench is filled and the illusion spell over it all is holding.
The illusion is what makes the Acid Trench lethal rather than merely obvious—the retreating enemy, confused and scared, saw only their empty fallback position and jumped in blind. Its continued stability is treated as a live operational concern, checked and reported like any other part of the battle plan.
