Silent ogre hire who held up a collapsing ceiling, awakened in his final second, and told Everly ruin may not be inevitable.
One of the last two of Everly's Mercenaries, this ogre had pinprick eyes, an oversized crushed nose, and an emotionless face, and never said a single word from the day Everly hired him. In the crushing room at the bottom of The Tower Maze he stood straining to hold up the descending rock ceiling as sand poured in — a futile act that enraged Everly for reasons she couldn't name, until she ordered him to dig or lie down instead of standing there. He dropped and dug like a mole excavating a burrow, half his sand spilling back into the dwarf's hole.
When he finally gave up he lay prone in the sand facing Everly, and she watched something flash behind his small black eyes "like a screen booting up" — an NPC Awakening. His only line, spoken as the ceiling kissed his face and pushed him into the sand, answers her whole philosophy: "Maybe there's more to it than this. Maybe it's not inevitable, like you say." Everly reached out and touched him as the pain began, and died with him.
A giant ogre with tiny pinprick black eyes and an oversized, crushed nose set in a flat, emotionless face, filthy from digging.
The mute NPC whose dying moment of self-awareness rebuts Everly's fatalism.
