Using craft-magic Build Trench scrolls to enjoin tunnels with enemy trenches, bypassing nearly all defensive protections.
The centerpiece of Carl's assault plan. Because Build Trench Scroll magic is craft magic rather than combat magic, it ignores most protections — it was never designed to be used offensively, and the scroll does not care who is casting it. Any crawler in a crater near the enemy line can cut a new channel that intersects an existing trench, accept the "do you wish to enjoin?" prompt, and open a breach straight through defenses that would stop a conventional attack.
According to Tipid, the exploit was pointed out years and years ago and never fixed — one of thousands of known holes the viewers gossip about on the galactic internet. It survives because Build Trench scrolls are expensive, so Faction Wars participants rarely bother when dozens of flashier ways exist to crack a trench. The crawlers, however, had the scrolls handed out like candy on the previous floor. Carl reads his in the crater, turns the line ninety degrees into a T, accepts the elevation warning, and digs — and all around him, in other craters, soldiers do exactly the same, opening dozens of simultaneous breaches that send red dots scrambling across the map.
The exploit that lets the Democratic Sortion bypass enemy trench protections wholesale.
