Red Recruit Banner

Blinking Red Banner · New Recruit Status

Blinking red faction banner marking NPCs converted from an enemy army, granting officers conscription-level control for a week.

Story so far

When eight gnoll mercenaries flip to The Princess Posse after Empress D'Nadia falls, Carl examines their banners and finds them a different color from the normal pink Posse banner — blinking red. The color marks them as new recruits taken from another army and lasts about a week.

While the banner blinks red, officers hold the same controls over the recruit as the Conscription spell provides: recruits cannot attack officers directly, can be forced to follow orders, and generate a notification if they run away. Crucially, they can also be killed trivially — ordered to stand still while their throats are cut, which Carl notes is what happened often during Faction Wars to NPCs, and to captured crawlers too. He deliberately declines to use it that way on Corporal Pillbox's squad.

Appearance

A blinking red banner floating above the head of a converted NPC, in place of the faction's normal banner color.

Role

Marks freshly captured enemy NPCs as compelled, expendable property of their new faction for roughly a week.

Relationships

Conscription — Grants the same degree of control over the marked NPC
Corporal Pillbox — Wears one along with seven of his squad
The Princess Posse — Its normal banner is pink; recruits blink red instead
Faction Wars — Recruits are routinely executed under this status
