The Monitor Station

the security station · the satellite · the Venus station

A Skull Empire-built security satellite orbiting Venus that houses the solar system's star-killing failsafe.

Story so far

The monitor station orbits the second planet of The Solar System — Venus, as Carl supplies for Princess Donut. It houses The Failsafe, the manual control that triggers a reaction in the system's star. King Rust insists its security is impenetrable and that the satellite will self-destruct if anyone unauthorized tries to break into its systems.

The catch is manufacture: the Skull Empire builds the satellites, and builds backdoors into everything it makes so its own products can never be turned against it. Princess Formidable revealed that backdoor to the entire galaxy and is five hours out with a stolen cruiser and a detachment of marines. Crucially the station is deliberately staged well outside the game system's control, so The AI — which holds the tunnel gate only because that controller must orbit the game planet — cannot intervene. Donut is scandalized that anyone can "just scoot onto it, press a button," and destroy the solar system.

Appearance

An orbital security satellite circling Venus, unremarkable except for the doomsday control inside it.

Role

The objective of Formidable's stolen-cruiser run and the physical location of the failsafe.

Relationships

The Failsafe — Houses the manual control that detonates the system's star.
Princess Formidable — Racing a stolen cruiser to board and seize it.
Skull Empire — Manufactured it, complete with a hidden backdoor.
The AI — Cannot reach it because it sits deliberately out of zone.
