Story so far
The dominant story on the news feeds is that the Mantis system has simply gone boom. The system destroyed held Hive Re-Population Center 51 — not the original mantid homeworld system but the newest and least populated of The Mantids' multiple colonies.
Stars do not usually go nova without warning, and the unexplained detonation has people across the galaxy starting to panic. It hangs over everything in the Earth system: it keeps traffic away from Squirties waystation, feeds the sense of impending war, and gives York a hollow flicker of satisfaction against the race that would see his kind exterminated.
