character

Eris

Goddess of Chaos

The goddess of chaos walks into a backwater refueling station and casually maims its owner for fun.

Story so far

At the very end of the book, a tall, elf-like woman with a long neck and naga-like eyes appears inside Squirties, a waystation just outside the tunnel gate to the Earth system, without any docking notice. Zander, the owner, mistakes her for a costumed fan of Nami come to pay respects at the gate, and asks whether her look is a costume or surgery.

She holds out her arms and asks whether he is really asking Eris, goddess of chaos, if she is wearing a costume - then bursts into laughter and offers to show him a costume. She snaps her fingers, every tentacle on Zander's face goes rigid, and each begins spewing a different liquid. Some of it burns. It is the book's closing image: with the crawl's war spilling into the wider galaxy, a god is loose outside the dungeon and amusing herself with civilians.
