Travel the Path

Light-god spell that turns the caster into light for seconds, letting them follow a path at lightspeed.

Story so far

Travel the Path is a spell unique among the light gods and goddesses of the Ascendency pantheon, and all fifteen of them keep temples inside Club Vanquisher. It looks and behaves like a cross between a phase and a teleportation spell but is neither — the system does not classify it as teleportation, which matters enormously on a floor where teleports and phases are banned. The caster temporarily becomes light and follows a path at the speed of light, making travel effectively instantaneous, though usually only for a few seconds.

It is dangerous. Casters are routinely splattered or cut in half by an unexpected shadow blocking the route. Six of the fifteen light deities grant some version of it immediately upon worship, and four of those pair it with Welcome Home — the combination that lets a brand-new adherent ride a Bijou's tendril straight into the strongest connected temple. Rosetta identifies this pairing as the mechanism behind The Sultana's Disappearing Act.

Role

The lightspeed movement spell that makes the Blood Sultanate's escape trick possible without tripping the teleport ban.

Relationships

Welcome Home — Paired skill that supplies the destination path.
Bijou — Lays the tendril of light the spell travels along.
Khepri — One of the four gods granting it immediately on worship.
Theia — Another of the four gods granting it immediately on worship.
Teleportation Ban — Not counted as teleportation, so it slips the ban.
