Celebration Carl's people held at the guild, remembered by him as the argument against pressing the fuse.
Carl never attends it. He thinks of the others, all still at the Guild of Suffering — they'd had their Christmas party, they'd spent it with friends, with family — and measures that against the alternative he is holding in his hands: dying alone, one by one, screaming in a pool of their own blood.
The comparison cuts against The Fuse. Whatever satisfaction blowing it would give him, Carl decides he has no right to make that decision for people who just had a good day together, and he presses Disconnect Containment instead. Donut's messages, arriving mid-deliberation, come from that same party.
The good day Carl refuses to be the one to end.
