character

Crawler Priestly

Priestly

Cookbook author who went insane at the sight of the fallen city; Carl remembers him amid the ruins.

Story so far

Standing in the reeking wreckage before the Semeru Dwarves castle, surrounded by acid puddles, slime, and falling red ash, Carl thinks of Priestly — the cookbook author who had gone insane at the sight of this city after it had fallen.

The memory surfaces as a rhythm rather than a scene: "Stab, stab, stab. Slam, slam, slam." It is a private measure of what Larracos has become, and a reminder that the horror of the place has broken people before.

Appearance

Not present; recalled only as a memory attached to a repeated, violent rhythm.

Role

Remembered cautionary figure whose madness measures the horror of the ruined city.

Relationships

Carl — Remembers him while standing in the ruins.
Larracos — The fallen city that drove him insane.
