Build Trench Scroll

Build Trench · Build Trench scrolls · build-trench

Craft-magic scroll that digs a trench along a chosen line, and can enjoin with an enemy trench to bypass protections.

Story so far

Handed out to crawlers like candy during the previous floor, the Build Trench scroll takes about ten seconds to activate and then projects a translucent line plus a map into the user's interface. The user rotates the line, confirms the prompts, and clicks Dig. Carl turns his line ninety degrees so it intersects the existing enemy trench in a T, accepts "This Trench intersects with an existing trench. Do you wish to enjoin?" and then the warning that his elevation is lower than the existing trench, and digs.

Because the scroll is craft magic and was never meant to be used offensively, it ignores most protections and does not care who is casting it — the basis of the Build Trench Exploit that Tipid flagged. Regular Faction Wars armies rarely use it because the scrolls are expensive and there are flashier ways into a trench, which is exactly why nobody defended against it. In this chapter, soldiers in craters all along the line use theirs simultaneously to punch dozens of breaches into the enemy defenses.

Appearance

A scroll that, when read, projects a translucent guide line and a map overlay into the reader's HUD.
