A monster card that was just Carl, but with way better hair and a much cooler voice.
Alpha Carl is the joke the whole galaxy got to enjoy: among the cards Carl collected on the eighth floor was one named Alpha Carl, which Quasar describes as "really just Carl but with way better hair and a much cooler voice".
He sits in the deck alongside a seal, Raul the crab, a giant terrifying cat, a donkey-snake thing and the fused Lazarus — a lineup that says as much about the card floor's sense of humour as anything else does. That the system produced an idealised duplicate of the crawl's most famous participant, and handed it to him as a playable monster, is entirely typical of how the show operates.
Carl, improved: the same wiry, underdressed human, but with genuinely excellent hair and a voice to match.
A monster card in Carl's eighth-floor deck: an idealised version of Carl himself.
