Story so far
Holston is the sheriff of The Silo. He still carries the Lottery ticket he won with his wife, Allison, in the year she died. After three years of waiting for something that has not come, he doubts whether an indistinct form visible on the hill can be trusted to be her. He also suspects that the spiral staircase was designed for occasional emergency use by far fewer people.
Deciding to go outside, Holston leaves his metal star on the desk and locks himself in the Holding Cell. He hands the key through the bars to Marnes and asks him to fetch the mayor and tell her that he wants to go outside.
