Soul Crystal
A clamshell-mounted purple gem that powers the flying house's balloon — recharged by killing, and dangerously explosive at higher grades.
Story so far
The Soul Crystal is the power source Commandant Kane gave Bonnie as a walnut-shaped necklace, instructing her to hand it to an adult; she gives it to Carl. An F-quality purple gem in a sliding clamshell clamp, it feeds the flying house's balloon, and how far the shell is opened controls the lift — it cut out entirely under Denise's anti-magic aura. It sits at 89% charge and recharges by killing.
Carl has seen these before powering the fourth floor's ghoul generators, and he still carries a broken, about-to-explode C-quality crystal in his inventory that would flatten 45 square kilometers if drawn — leaving him to wonder how devastating a B- or A-quality gem would be. He keeps the shell cracked just enough to keep the house hovering without letting it fly off.
Appearance
A small purple-hued gem, no bigger than a walnut, mounted in a sliding clamshell-like brass clamp on a necklace cord.
Role
The keystone that keeps the captured air-quadrant house aloft — and a hint at soul crystals' explosive potential as weapons.
