Torn Book Page

the cleric's journal page

A ripped cleric's-journal page looted from Henrik that reveals the ghost Quetzalcoatlus is a Wailing Shrieker — and how to beat her.

Story so far

The Torn Book Page is a slip of paper the System planted on Henrik's corpse in the Akula — half a bad love poem to a cleric's aunt, the reverse a passage on ghosts. It identifies Quetzalcoatlus as a 'She Who Wails' or 'Wailing Shrieker': a ghost formed when a grieving widow dies of despair, in the dark, on hallowed ground, beside her lover's rotting corpse — often deliberately created (sometimes from whole harems of unwitting women) to guard a pharaoh's tomb. Intelligent and jealous, she is non-corporeal and neutralized by any flesh-giving spell, and destroyed by high-level exorcism, banishment, electric shock, or by destroying her lover's corpse.

The page reveals that Henrik's Changeling Principals came to give her flesh so they could physically touch her — a plan that instead got them killed.
