Infiltrator

the Scree · brain worm parasite

A parasitic brain-worm race that seizes total control of a living host, locking the victim conscious inside their own body.

Story so far

The Infiltrators are a race of brain-worm parasites — formally the Scree, distant cousins of the corpse-riding intellect hunters and the Valtay. As Mordecai explains, an Infiltrator infects a *living* host, and over a few days (during which the victim doesn't even know they're infected) the worm completes its "annexation," gaining power and locking the host out of their own body — the person can do nothing but watch as they're puppeted. The worm can wield all of the host's spells and abilities and cannot leave until the host dies; like most brain parasites, they're aquatic.

Maggie My chose this race and used it to hollow out and pilot Chris Andrews 2. Expelling one without killing the host is "next to impossible": Mordecai knows only of an antiparasitic he can't brew until the next floor, and warns that when a host dies, the Infiltrator survives and burrows out to seek a new body.

Appearance

A small aquatic brain-worm parasite that lodges within the host's brain; invisible from outside, betrayed only by the host's altered behavior.

Role

The body-snatching parasite race behind Maggie's takeover of Chris — a near-unbeatable horror.

Relationships

Maggie My — The crawler-killer who became one to puppet Chris and hunt Carl.
Chris Andrews 2 — The living host it has locked out of his own body.
Mordecai — Who explains its biology and the near-impossibility of removing it without killing the host.
