Story so far

As Carl waits at Shepherd's House, the system AI blocks interference and protects the broadcast. Zev says the event obviously concerns Residuals and dismisses it as likely minor, but refuses to define the term because she is forbidden to do so.

She expects Carl to learn directly. Soon afterward, an elderly figure who should be an unaware memory ghost looks at Carl and calls him a crawler, providing the first observable clue to what a Residual may be.
