The Red Maníseros Land Crabs
The red Maníseros are forest and wetland land crabs whose annual migration to reproduce in the ocean brings them into violent conflict with the monk seals.
Story so far
The quest claims huge numbers of red land crabs must enter the sea after waiting a year to reproduce. Their spawning fouls monk seal waters and food supplies, but denying access would prevent the crabs from having offspring.
Paz explains that real Cuban land crabs migrate near the Bay of Pigs in spring, cover roads, damage tires, attract birds, and are dangerous for people to eat. Only females enter the ocean to lay already fertilized eggs, contradicting the dungeon's crude account.
The dungeon's versions are trained in Juego de maní and may be far larger and more dangerous than the hand-sized real animals.
