Open Intellect Trap

Pacifist Network Residual Gambit

Former crawlers engineer Carl's Residual encounter in hope of provoking either an AI massacre or a star-destroying failsafe.

Story so far

Orren identifies the Open Intellect Pacifist Network as a former-crawler organization committed to making the crawl fail. It sends the marked flyer before Carl chooses Miami and spends heavily to steer the Royal Court near the hidden memory speech.

According to Orren, the sponsors expected one of two outcomes. Extracting Carl might anger the newly primal AI enough to kill everyone, while allowing the dangerous disclosure might force the Syndicate council to activate a failsafe that destroys the Sun. Either path would stop crawls for a long time at catastrophic local cost.

Orren says he anticipated the extraction and negotiated it with the AI. The sponsors become fugitives, their assets and sponsorship position are frozen, and their gambit appears unsuccessful.

Appearance

A covert plan connecting sponsor box, Florida map, shelter speech, angry AI, and a darkened star.

Role

The gambit reveals an anti-crawl movement willing to sacrifice Carl and Earth for a chance to stop the institution.

Relationships

Open Intellect Pacifist Network — Its former-crawler members design and fund the operation.
Carl — He is the unwitting trigger positioned beside the speech.
Paulie Goff — His prepared message supplies the hoped-for dangerous disclosure.
AI Failsafe — One planned branch depends on forcing the council to activate it.
