Carl's Personal Shield · Saturn Pin Shield

A slotless Valtay pin that projects a close-fitting physical barrier around Carl for about two minutes.

Story so far

Carl uses a Cracker Jack scroll to unlock the hunter-looted platinum shield. The round pin resembles Saturn and can be toggled through his interface without occupying an equipment slot.

When active, it forms an inch-thick body-shaped buffer that blocks physical attacks and partially resists corporeal magic such as projectiles, fire, and lightning. It is weaker than Protective Shell, burns out after several hits or roughly two minutes, and takes about an hour to recharge.

The field includes anything touching Carl when activated, so Donut can share it from his shoulder. If she is not already in contact, the shield repels her rather than admitting her.

Appearance

A small Saturn-shaped pin projecting a transparent one-inch outline around a human body.

Role

The shield gives Carl a reusable first-hit buffer that can briefly cover Donut without using a gear slot.

Relationships

Carl — He wears and manually controls the shield.
Cracker Jack — One scroll unlocks the previously unusable technology.
Princess Donut — She is protected only if touching Carl at activation.
Protective ShellBk 5 — The spell is stronger but less continuously available.
