Valtay Neural Enhancer
A brain-altering pill from the Valtay that grants Carl the ability to identify, analyze, and see through subspace portals.
Story so far
The Valtay Neural Enhancer is a blue-and-yellow capsule delivered to Carl in a Bronze Benefactor box from his sponsor, the Valtay Corporation, on The Iron Tangle. Initially fearing a brain parasite, Carl verifies it as merely "common" and swallows it. It permanently, irreversibly installs a "Third-Party Upgrade": the power to Identify and Analyze Subspace Portals — letting him tag portals, read whether he can pass them, check the environment beyond, and even snap a still photo of the far side (where he's allowed access).
The skill becomes crucial for decoding the Nightmare Express's abyss gate and the trainyard beyond.
