Steam Engineers Key
A looted key granting access to all 400 steam-trains of the Tangle — and, equipped, safe passage through the abyss gate.
Story so far
The Steam Engineer's Key is a large bronze key Carl loots from the gore of the Nightmare Express's dead drivers after hijacking the train on The Iron Tangle. Unlike the color-coded subway keys (like Gore-Gore's ochre key), it unlocks employee-only areas and actions on all four hundred steam-type trains of the Tangle. Crucially, Carl's new portal-sight reveals it as one of three items "marked" for passage through the abyss gate — alongside the ochre key and, absurdly, the junk train-conductor souvenir hat — making it a literal key to escaping the floor by rail.
Appearance
A large, heavy bronze key, blood-smeared when found among the train's dead engineers.
Role
