Widget is a level-19 Grease Gremlin, an Iron Tangle steam-engine technician who zip-lines down a chain from his watchtower to Substation E when Carl's hijacked Nightmare Express rolls in during the ghoul infestation. A gremlin who chose boiler repair over bloodshed — held in check only by mandatory HR sensitivity training — he rants in a garbled Creole-cockney patois, mourns the engineer CrackJack only to mock him ("CockJack"), and cares mostly that Fire Brandy, now expecting, is unharmed. Smitten with Princess Donut (praising the "meat on her bones" and inviting her to his wife's fish stew at Station 60), he unhooks the ruined cars, coaches the party toward the Escape Velocity and the employee line, and prepares to spin the turntable and ride out with them.
As he waves goodbye, a spider-ghoul Donut had "killed" reanimates and tears his head off in a single motion, devouring him — leaving Donut to work the tower controls alone.
