The galactic broadcast layer, censoring what crawlers may see while selling their private lives as exclusives.
The Stream shows both of its faces in one segment. On the production side it is a machine for manufacturing story: Odette's program is a tunneled program, exclusive appearances on it are advertised as first-and-only events, and the entire Beatrice interview exists to convert Carl and Princess Donut's private history into audience speculation and theories. Odette states her consent protocols on air precisely because the audience is a party to everything.
On the crawler side it is a wall. When the video package rolls, the censor blocks it from Carl and Donut entirely — they sit in front of a screen they cannot see while it plays scenes from the planet's surface and explains the rules covering humans who never went into the dungeon, the walk-on list, and the illegal trade in bounty hunters selling survivors to the production. Only Zev, messaging from the wings, tells them what is being said about their own world.
The stream also dictates the shape of the confrontation. Everything Donut does while the cameras are live is performance — the paw-licking, the deadpan lines, the polished farewell — and the truth comes out only after Odette confirms they are off air. Both Odette and Zev agree the timing of the broadcast is terrible, and Donut expects it to be buried by the news that follows.
The broadcast system that carries the crawl to the galaxy, controls what crawlers can see, and turns their relationships into programming.
