The All-Tree

all-tree

A floor-spanning root organism whose expendable outcroppings absorb and reflect magic to protect nearby forest-kin.

Story so far

The old tree near Fort Freedom is only an outcropping of a vast root system whose main body lies far below, between the disputed lands and the celestial realm. Forest-kin within a few hundred meters are shielded from magic because the outcropping absorbs and reflects hostile spells.

The reflected lightning from three Skull Empire hunters kills two of them and destroys the local outcropping. The roots remain alive, and the tree can regrow in several months. The same protection extends to high elves, whose castle stands within another all-tree grove.

Appearance

A colossal ancient forest tree, its burned outcropping split and smoking after discharging brilliant blue lightning.

Role

The All-Tree turns a hunter ambush into a catastrophic failure and reveals a defensive principle shared by forest-kin.

Relationships

The Talent — It reflects his lightning spell and kills him.
Future Huntress — Its defense leaves her as the ambush's sole survivor.
The High Elf Castle — Another all-tree grove protects the high elves' seat from magic.
