The AI

the announcement lady · the same lady as always

The dungeon's chipper announcer, doing damage control on a civil war and selling a party.

Story so far

The same lady as always interrupts the Personal Space with an announcement, more annoyingly chipper than ever, and takes an unusually long time about it. Most of it is denial: the last world announcement means nothing, some crawlers who deal with Borant administrators may find themselves with a different representative, but for the vast majority nothing has changed. The Borant Corporation is not the Borant System government, and has been fully severed from silly system politics; the civil war that just erupted in the home system will have no bearing whatsoever on this production, and they look forward to working with The Valtay. This is still a kua-tin organisation run by the same kua-tin who designed the season — and, she adds, this particular crawl is her personal life project, something she has worked on for a very, very long time, and she is going nowhere. All future floors will be the ones they were always going to be. That is all they are going to say about it.

The rest is business. Record sponsor bidding; stingy or inactive sponsors are probably holding their slots to sell, and Sponsorship stakes become sellable next floor. The Hunt has claimed over five hundred crawlers, but a record fifty-plus hunters have fallen, so many that their families are complaining — which she frames as crawlers showing spunk. Because of public outcry and a court injunction the production fully supports, Hunters may no longer communicate with anyone outside the dungeon, and she is delighted at how angry that made them. Patch notes follow: the southwest hot springs have been heated to spec, accidentally cooking the crawlers in them, and any gear looted from those bodies will be stripped from inventories at the end of the message; the lava tubes there are now live; allosaurus mobs are split into two types and further split by gender for a new quest; the Fuck those Trees in Particular spell is temporarily disabled. Finally, the The Butchers Masquerade preparations are well underway, and every crawler in the top thousand can now see their ranking — and if you have nothing, she says, you need to stop being so boring. Now get out there and kill, kill, kill.

Appearance

A disembodied broadcast voice, relentlessly bright, whose only physical presence is the sound filling every room at once.

Role

The dungeon's system voice and mouthpiece for the production; here she reveals the crawl is her personal life's work and quietly confirms who is really in charge of it.

Relationships

Borant — Speaks for the corporation while insisting it is entirely separate from the government now at war.
The Valtay — Announces that the production looks forward to working with them, several sentences after claiming nothing has changed.
Hunters — Cuts off their outside communications on air and openly enjoys how furious it made them.
