Jimmy’s long black rifle has served through accidents and violent encounters, but Solo now leaves it behind as no longer useful.
Jimmy reaches for the long black gun while asking to accompany his father. The weapon left with him is the same kind his father used to kill Yani. Learning to handle it leaves a hole in the ceiling, and its stiff ammunition-holder spring makes loading difficult. Before one departure, Jimmy dismantles, oils, and reassembles his favorite rifle, loading two clips from ammunition he considers lucky because few rounds have failed.
As Solo, he shoots at Supply’s locked entrance. The rifle also discharges when it strikes a doorjamb and presses against his finger as he flees, and later takes in water when he falls into flooding. After years without firing it, Jimmy uses it against two intruders. Solo eventually leaves the gun behind because he considers it no longer useful.
