The neighboring silo’s uprising began before a scheduled cleaning and produced a deadly crush on the staircase.
Story so far
Solo dates the fighting that drove him into hiding to thirty-four years earlier. He remembers violence continuing after people had left the silo and worsening into disputes over food and women.
The account of the last great Louds returns to its beginning, the day before a scheduled cleaning. People carrying pipes and steel bars flee upward amid loud bangs. The stairwell fills beyond its designed capacity, and Russ reports that people are being crushed.
