Brais, one of Don Abene's GoodNightLander Independent researchers, keeps her head through the crisis: she supports the wounded Ejiro, relays with the shuttle, and gets everyone clear during the staged evacuation. Her key contribution comes at the climax, when a combat bot in a work zipper flies to destroy the tractor array holding the terraforming facility aloft. Pulling the zipper's specs, Brais realizes it needs a feed link to the engineering pod to navigate, and proposes using the shielded shuttle to bump it off course so it loses control.
The plan works, saving the array and GI's investment. She survives the ordeal, shaken by the loss of Miki and the apparent death of the SecUnit.
