The gleaming Gold city on the surface of Mars above Lykos, stratified by Color into avenues, sectors, and the lawless Bazaar.
Yorkton is the surface city Dancer reveals to Darrow, a Gold metropolis of spires, parks, rivers, gardens, and fountains beneath a paraterraforming dome, sprawling above the Lykos mines on a Mars that is already greened and livable. By night its high-tech sectors blaze with liquid HC advertisements, luminescent walkways, and Color-coded paths — Golds and Silvers flying on gravBoots while Reds scrub the streets. Access to districts is set by Color and warrant: a Copper may slum in a Red quarter but never the reverse.
At its heart churns the Bazaar, a riotous, humid warren of commerce, brothels, biomod shops, and back alleys where even an Obsidian should not go, and where Mickey the Carver keeps his den. To Darrow, raised underground, its open sky brings vertigo and dread.
A domed city of spires, rivers, parks, and Roman-esque temples under a blue star-stained sky; blazing hi-tech avenues of moving walkways and liquid ads, Color-segregated districts, and the dense, dark, humid sprawl of the Bazaar.
The Gold surface city on Mars where Darrow first witnesses the Society's wealth and meets the Carver.
