Lea

A gentle House Mars Dreg, once beaten by Vixus and beloved of Roque, murdered by Antonia as bait for Darrow.

Story so far

Lea is one of Darrow's Dreg tribe in House Mars, a small, sweet girl who was the House's first slave — beaten and kicked by Vixus to steal her labor before Darrow overthrew Titus and outlawed such abuse. She paints the crossbones and wolves on Darrow's horse, giggles as she taunts the defeated Tamara on his behalf, and cuts her hair short as she and the poet Roque fall shyly for each other, Roque confessing he means to kiss her. That tenderness is turned into a weapon: on the night Darrow becomes Primus, Antonia uses Lea to lure him from the castle with a lie about Roque falling into a crevice, then — when Darrow will not break cover — cuts the girl's throat to the bone to punish his silence.

Darrow builds a cairn over her fragile body at dawn, another death that death's shadow, the Reaper, could not prevent.
