The Carving

The agonizing surgical remaking of a body from one Color into another, the Sons' great gamble to forge a false Gold.

Story so far

The Carving is the art of physically remaking a human body, practiced by Violet Carvers like Mickey, who graft wings, claws, tails, and growFlesh onto their "dreamthings." The Sons-of-Ares' greatest goal since their founding has been to turn this art to a single end: to carve a lowRed all the way into a Gold — bone, muscle, eye, and Sigil — so that one of their own can infiltrate the ruling Color and break the Society from within. It is monstrously dangerous. Harmony tells Darrow that ninety-seven candidates have failed the Carving that they know of, and that all of them died or begged for death.

Darrow is to be the next attempt.

Appearance

An extreme surgical and biological transformation of the flesh, remaking a person's build, features, and Color entirely.

Role

The body-altering procedure by which the Sons hope to forge Darrow into a Gold.
