Miss Darcy

Georgiana Darcy · Georgiana · Darcy's sister

Georgiana receives the engagement news with wholehearted delight and an eager wish to be loved by Elizabeth as a sister.

Story so far

Miss Darcy learns that her brother Mr. Darcy is engaged to Elizabeth Bennet and sends four pages insufficient for all her joy. Her response is entirely sincere: she is eager not only for Darcy's happiness but for Elizabeth's affection and the prospect of gaining her as a sister.

This warmth confirms the favorable impression Elizabeth formed at Pemberley. Georgiana's shy gentleness has already made her someone Elizabeth can value, and the coming marriage promises to transform a cautious acquaintance interrupted by Lydia's crisis into a close family bond.

Appearance

She is a tall, slender young Englishwoman with a handsome, noble appearance and fine features; her hair, eye colour, complexion, and dress are not specifically described.

Role

She is Darcy's beloved younger sister, whose unforced welcome makes Elizabeth's future at Pemberley emotionally possible as well as socially grand.
