Captain Iwasa

Iwasa · Singh's first commanding officer

A compassionate captain lost his career by softening Laconia's code, becoming Singh's painful proof that personal love cannot qualify duty.

Story so far

Captain Iwasa was Santiago Singh's first commanding officer after the academy and taught the young officer almost everything he needed to know. He was easy to love because affection for the people under him shaped his command. That same quality became his fatal institutional flaw.

After a revised naval code made dereliction punishable by consignment to The Pen, Iwasa gave administrative penalties to two Marines found sleeping on duty and then lied about that choice to Admiral Goyer. Singh witnessed the lie, reported it up the chain, and caused Iwasa to be stripped of rank and dishonorably discharged. Singh misses him every day but tells Winston Duarte that Iwasa ceased to be his commander when he knowingly abandoned the code.

Appearance

An adult male Laconian naval officer whose physical features are not described; he is known through his former captain's authority and the personal warmth that made subordinates love him.
