Laconia's immense research campus turns protomolecule science and alien artifacts into the practical foundations of Duarte's future empire.
The University of Laconia occupies nearly forty hectares outside the capital, making its bioengineering and nanoinformatics laboratory possibly the largest research complex in human space. Paolo Cortazár, the university's president and head of exobiological studies, controls almost a quarter of the campus. Like the rest of Laconia, it is built far larger than its present population requires, anticipating generations of expansion.
Its work includes protomolecule-grown carbon armor for the Laconian Military Council, alien-system interfaces, and the experimental treatment of Winston Duarte. The campus also contains The Pen, the armored high-security facility that supplies active biological samples.
A sprawling, nearly forty-hectare research campus on the outskirts of Laconia's oversized capital, linked by gravel paths and small electric carts beneath the alien orbital platform.
The university is Laconia's central scientific institution and the institutional home of Cortazár's exobiology program.
