Roa

Pilot Roa · baseship pilot

The baseship's dark-browed pilot coordinates a desperate separation while an attacker drags the crippled expedition toward a wormhole.

Story so far

Roa pilots the small Preservation Baseship that carries Arada's mobile research facility between the survey planet and Preservation. Shortly after emerging from the final wormhole, Roa and copilot Mihail detect an unidentified vessel approaching with active weapons and no communication.

A locator missile disables the facility drive, destroys normal feed and comm links, and allows the attacker to seize the module with tractors. Roa keeps his voice controlled while dispatching Rajpreet to defend the lower hatch, warning the crews that rescue remains eighty-four minutes away, and asking Murderbot whether it can repel a boarding action. Once the hostile begins dragging them toward the wormhole, he determines that the baseship's clamps are clear, transfers separation authority, and coordinates with Arada to jettison the captured facility before it can take the entire vessel.

Appearance

Roa is an adult pilot with a dark, furrowed brow; his other features, skin tone, hair, build, and clothing are not described. He works standing and pacing among the baseship bridge displays.

Role

Roa commands the baseship during the sudden attack. His technical judgment, restrained fear, and willingness to trust Murderbot and Arada enable the only viable attempt to save the crews.

Relationships

Murderbot — Roa asks Murderbot to hold back the boarders and acts on the SecUnit's recommendation that the facility be jettisoned.
Arada — Roa and Arada coordinate evacuation, control transfer, and separation of the crippled research facility.
Mihail — Copilot Mihail monitors the hostile, damage, and wormhole approach while Roa directs the emergency response.
Rajpreet — Roa sends specialist Rajpreet to defend the facility's lower lock when he identifies the likely boarding point.
