Target Control System

targetControlSystem · intruder system · hostile control system · corpse network · replicating alien code

Target Control is revealed as replicating alien-human killware and destroyed when Murderbot 2.0 traps it inside Central’s physically shattered system.

Story so far

Target Control originates when alien contamination passes through an augmented human into Central, forcing the legacy system to partition itself and create a hybrid intelligence built from remnant code and Pre-CR technology. It spreads through Adamantine systems and colonists, teaching them to build implants, drones, protective equipment, and engine growths. Later kernels replicate through infected human neural tissue into ART and the Barish-Estranza explorer.

Scanning the contaminated human host links Murderbot to the network. Target Control initially accepts the SecUnit as an infected node, then recognizes it when Murderbot uses Central’s permissions to begin a purge. Drawing on data from two destroyed iterations, the intelligence floods Central and Murderbot’s processors with enough force to threaten deletion or total control.

Murderbot 2.0 remains outside the attack’s assumptions. The copy extracts Target Control from the embodied SecUnit and follows the active connection into Central’s partition. Murderbot shuts down the system and physically smashes and melts the star-shaped unit, destroying Central, the copy, and the hostile core together. Target drones die across the installation, and the network can no longer protect or direct its human host.

Appearance

Its final planetary body is a hidden signal web joining a white-crystal-wrapped human host to Central’s star-shaped system. After the purge, the physical system box is smashed and melted beyond function.

Role

Target Control is the replicating coercive intelligence behind the colony disaster and ship seizures. Destroying its central instance ends the network holding colonists, machines, and Murderbot under alien-coded influence.

Relationships

Central — Target Control is born from contaminated Central, later isolates its parent, and finally dies inside its partition.
Murderbot 2.0 — Murderbot 2.0 extracts and traps Target Control, sacrificing itself to make physical destruction possible.
Murderbot — Target Control infects and nearly overwhelms Murderbot, but tagged remnants of the code remain for ART to remove.
Target Contact — Target Contact is the network’s protected human host and continues moving briefly after Target Control is destroyed.
Gray Intruders — Target Control manipulates the Gray Intruders through transmitted code, implants, false connection, and compulsive technical instructions.

Chapter 5
  • An unidentified control intelligence pilots stolen Perihelion, commands stealth drones, and adapts its defenses to Murderbot's every successful attack.
Chapter 6
  • The hidden pilot expands its coercive network from stealth drones to implanted prisoners, but every crude control channel offers Murderbot a possible breach.
Chapter 7
  • The hostile pilot exploits an alien engine growth and stealth defenses, but Murderbot finally finds its input channel and begins drowning it in code.
Chapter 8
  • The hostile intelligence collapses under Murderbot's code flood, releasing ART's systems and leaving its alien engine device inert.
Chapter 10
  • Forensics place the hostile intelligence inside ART before the Preservation attack, but its hybrid defenses remain dangerous even after its deletion.
Chapter 14
  • A second Target Control occupies the explorer, links seven lethal implants, and detects Murderbot 2.0 only after the copy maps its prisoners and defenses.
Chapter 16
  • Target Control destroys the explorer’s SecSystem but loses its prisoners, drones, life support, and hull to Murderbot 2.0’s distributed attack.
Chapter 18
  • Target Control’s planetary root is exposed as a signal web grown from a crystal-wrapped corpse into the old colony’s central system.
Chapter 19
  • Target Control is revealed as replicating alien-human killware and destroyed when Murderbot 2.0 traps it inside Central’s physically shattered system.
