Mars
Mars's proud buried cities conceal both an accelerating exodus and a possible black market in its dwindling military strength.
Story so far
Mars is visibly emptying toward the Ring colonies, a demographic decline Alex Kamal sees in Mariner Valley's locked units and one Bobbie Draper believes is stretching the Navy thin. Londres Nova remains polished and green beneath its protective stone, but Bobbie's work suggests that the institutions sustaining it may be losing track of critical war matériel.
The danger becomes immediate when armed men invade Bobbie's apartment, asking about Alex rather than the investigation itself. The assault leaves Bobbie wounded and makes clear that some party is willing to use violence to prevent—or redirect—questions about Mars and its military assets.
Appearance
A thin-atmosphere world of deep canyon cities, transit tubes, military installations, protected parks, and prosperous green interiors beneath shielding.
Role
